It’s hard to believe that Goodguys just wrapped up the 38th West Coast Nationals! Almost 40 years of West Coast hot rodding was on display in Pleasanton, California, last weekend for three full days of cool cars and good times.
The Alameda County Fairgrounds was packed with customs, hot rods, muscle cars, street rods, and classics. Goodguys also had a special Tri-Five Chevy display to celebrate their 70th anniversary, with each model showcased in a separate building. There was plenty of fun for the whole family, from smokin’ burnout contest to the thundering nitro-burning dragsters, a swap meet full of vintage treasures, and, of course, constant tire squealing and red-line rpm on the autocross track.
We’re proud that our editorial crew was able to give three special awards, a task that was not easy! Mark Brooks scored the Modern Rodding Award for his 1932 Ford five-window, Bill Schultz and his 1965 Chevy C10 was picked by Classic Truck Performance, and Brent Schieder got the nod from All Chevy Performance with his wicked 1970 Chevelle.
The Goodguys team faced the same challenge in seeking finalists for their regional Top 12 awards, presented by BASF. The finalists ended up being Brad Brown’s 1970 Boss 429 Mustang as the Snap-on Muscle Car of the Year finalist, Ron Michels’ 1968 Dodge Charger as the Griot’s Garage Muscle Machine of the Year finalist, Jeremiah Allen’s 1954 Chevy as the Scott’s Hotrods ’N Customs Custom of the Year finalist, Kelly Boen’s 1956 Chevy as the Vintage Air Custom Rod of the Year finalist, Andrew Slattery’s 1957 Chevy pickup as the LMC Truck of the Year Early finalist, and Cameron Carter’s 1967 Chevy C10 as the Dakota Digital Truck of the Year Late finalist.
It was an amazing three days in Pleasanton with plenty of California sunshine along with high temps, but the cars kept their cool! There was also a model car show, a cool Cushman exhibit, the amazing artwork of pinstripers at their Brush Bash, and more. It was just a great weekend to be a gearhead.
Goodguys will be back in Pleasanton for their Autumn Get-Together November 8-9. If you happen to be in the Rocky Mountain state, they’ll be hosting their Colorado Nationals September 5-7 in Windsor, just north of Denver.
