Imagine over 10,000 pre-1965 show cars gathering in one place with cruising that doesn’t stop for three days straight. Sound like hot rod heaven? We agree, but this isn’t heaven; it’s the 52nd annual MRSA Back to the 50’s car show at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds in St. Paul, Minnesota.

The historic fairgrounds in St. Paul span 320 acres and were filled with more than 125,000 spectators who came to see show cars, hundreds of vendors, live bands, a swap meet, and amazing state fair food. It is nearly impossible to feel like you have seen it all, given how massive the grounds are. When you do get tired of walking, you can grab some food and sit under one of the massive shade trees, and the show comes to you. Cars line both sides of the streets, while others cruise continuously between the rows, allowing you to see, hear, feel, and even smell them in motion.

The Back to the 50s car show runs for three days, with a huge swap meet on Sunday. This year’s swap was packed with treasures and builders looking for the next project or a rare part. The swap is also a great place to catch up with friends and discuss what has been happening in each other’s shops and favorite rides at the show.

The iconic show has been running for over half a century and is hosted by the Minnesota Street Rod Association (MSRA). Such a massive event is made possible by the volunteer work of over 2,000 members of the club’s 20,000-plus. Pretty amazing for a show that started with 125 cars. This year’s Back to the 50s event had some rough weather on Friday, but Saturday and Sunday’s weather made up for it with picture-perfect conditions.
