Texas region hot rodders and car enthusiasts two-stepped over to Texas Motor Speedway (TMS) for two days of cool cars, cool people, and good times when Goodguys took over the infield for their 15th LMC Truck Spring Lone Star Nationals presented by Old Air Products.
Springtime always brings out fresh builds, and there were plenty to be found throughout the TMS infield. LMC Truck hosted a Trick Truck Corral, and this being Texas there were plenty of cool pickups ranging from the 1950s and older up through sleek OBS builds. The Builder’s Choice area, presented by Hills Hot Rods and KC’s Paint Shop, was packed with high-end hot rods, muscle machines, and classics.
Goodguys selected five vehicles as finalists for their Top 12 of the Year Awards presented by BASF. These well-deserving finalists included Odie Hughes’ 1955 Chevy as the LMC Truck of the Year Early finalist, Ricky Bright’s 1968 GMC Suburban as the Dakota Digital Truck of the Year Late finalist, Tony Kondrotis’ 1970 Camaro Z28 as the Snap-on Muscle Car of the Year finalist, David Neill’s 1950 Chevy Bel Air as the Vintage Air Custom Rod of the Year finalist, and Darrell Moseley’s 1940 Ford convertible as the Scott’s Hotrods ’N Customs Custom of the Year finalist.
The Goodguys Autocross was at full song both days of the show, filled in by the squealing, hazing of tires as Urban Drift had exhibitions and ride-alongs all weekend on the infield road course. On Friday night, show participants also got the opportunity to make a few laps on the actual speedway!
The show culminated in a late-afternoon awards ceremony at 4:44 on Saturday, with a fantastic parade of cool cars and trucks cruising past the stage to collect their hardware. It was a fitting way to celebrate some standout cars and trucks, and a great way to wrap up two incredible days of Goodguys springtime fun in Texas. Next up on the Goodguys schedule is the 19th BASF Nashville Nationals at Nashville Superspeedway May 16-18.
