In Your Garage: Marc Wallin’s 1967 GMC 7500

Background on the Car:

“Betty” is a 1967 GMC 7500 that originally served as a fire-service truck for Spring Lake Township Fire Department. We found her on Facebook Marketplace and bought her in March 2023. Today she is known as Betty RIG 314, or #bettyrig314 online.

This is a father-and-son build between Robert Wallin and his son, Marc. Most of the work was done at home, including fabrication, wiring, interior construction, suspension work, and custom body modifications. The frame was shortened nearly 4 feet and fitted with a 1996 LWB Chevy bed while retaining the original 401 GMC Magnum V-6, NP541GL five-speed, and heavy-duty drivetrain.

Side profile of a modified 1967 GMC 7500 medium-duty truck featuring a custom dually bed, fuel tanks, and diamond-plate running boards.

Betty isn’t perfect, and that was never the goal. We intentionally kept the dents, scars, and character from her years in fire service. Somehow, at every show she attends, she always seems to become a crowd favorite.

She is driven approximately 500-800 miles per year, primarily to local car and truck shows.
