Goodguys Kicked Off its 42nd Season With its Spring Nationals

By Todd Ryden

Goodguys Rod and Custom kicked off their 42nd season last weekend with their 15th FiTech Fuel Injection Spring Nationals presented by Grundy Insurance. Hot rodders seemed ready for three days of fun as street rods, muscle cars, classic trucks, and customs filled up the sprawling showgrounds at WestWorld of Scottsdale, Arizona.

It was cool to see what cars Doug Jerger and his team from Squeeg’s Kustoms picked as their Top 10 for the Builder’s Choice plus Goodguys picked a stunning 1966 Chevelle as a finalist for their Muscle Machine of the Year as part of their Top 12 Of The Year Awards along with a 1950 Lincoln as a finalist for Custom of the Year. An additional pick was the tidy Model A roadster for their Feature Pick.

The weekend was packed with non-stop autocross action, not to mention a huge swap meet filled with rust-free sheetmetal, project cars, engine parts, and classic automobilia collectibles. If we had any room in the garage or backyard there were a few projects in the car corral that would have been nice to drive (or tow) home. Alas, a new project was not in the cards … or wallet, this time.

Our truck staff was geeked to see the Squarebody Syndicate and GSI Machine and Fabrication special parking area for GM trucks while in the background there was the cackle and smell of nitro burning from a few vintage dragsters. All in all it was a great way to kick off the outdoor show season and fun to see so many people cruising the grounds in their classics.

Goodguys will be doing it all again on March 29-30, 2025, in Pleasanton, California, for their All American Get-Together.
