Refreshing Up the Crusty Dash of a 1957 Chevy

Simply replacing the original gauge cluster on our 1957 Chevy with a new one wasn’t sufficient. The plan also included installing an air conditioning system from Vintage Air, which meant the dash would need to be entirely stripped and refinished. As it turned out, the dash was already in need of rehabilitation due to the paint beginning to peel. Scraping off the easily removable paint area left a section about 4×10 inches exposed, which required a more-aggressive approach so we hit it with multiple applications of paint stripper to get the results we were looking for prior to filling and repainting.
