The small-block Chevy engine is notorious for oil leaks, a legacy from its 1950s design. While completely eliminating leaks is unlikely, this article offers several methods to minimize them. Key strategies include using high-quality gaskets and seals, such as Fel-Pro’s one-piece gaskets and various two-piece rear main seals. Other techniques involve offsetting seal parting lines, applying RTV sealant in critical areas, and using PCV valves to reduce crankcase pressure.
